Using Computer Badge Programs
You can benefit by
computerizing your company's security and ID
badges.
This will give
you the advantage of easily maintaining a log of
visitors, and you can save the information that
you print onto badges and call it up again if
necessary. You can do a search on any individual
or time and find out who would have had a valid
badge at that time.
Specialized equipment is required to make
computer badges. The best self-expiring,
temporary ID badges require a special printer. A
modest initial investment is required,
considering that the equipment will work for
years. Common models, which can handle various
sizes of self-expiring badges, cost between $300
and $1,200.
You will have to monitor certain types of
printers and restock the accessories required to
make computer badges. However, thermal printers
are available that print badges without the
expense of ribbons, toner, and ink cartridges.
You might also want to laminate your labels.
Some badge printers will do this for you, while
others don’t, and you must purchase a laminator
separately. You will also want to stock supplies
for hanging or attaching your badges.
If you are making badges by computer, you can
prepare for groups of visitors in advance. By
obtaining a spreadsheet from a representative of
the group, you can easily merge the required
information with the label printing software and
custom design your own labels or use pre-design
layouts, whichever option suits your timetable
and style.
