Using ID Badges or Tags to Control Items Brought
into Your Building
Whether you are
checking for weapons or illicit substances, you
can take some of the simple measures used at
airports.
For many reasons,
some of which you might not have thought of, you
might want to attach security tags or ID badges
to bags that are brought onto your premises by
employees or visitors. You might also want to
incorporate additional security measures into
your existing employee identification protocol.
You can easily update your ID badge security
system rather than implement a new system. You
can do this by attaching small stickers with
expiration dates to any plastic or laminated
badges that employees already wear. These
stickers are durable, but easily removed,
replaced, or covered if you want to extend the
expiration date, especially for temporary
employees.
You can also tag bags and briefcases, which may
be especially important if belongings are
checked by security at the door. Whether you are
checking for weapons or illicit substances, you
can take some of the simple measures used at
airports.
Most importantly, if you tag baggage for
security purposes, you should use a label or tag
that is non-transferable. A sticker can be
removed and put on another bag. A sticker may
also be removed and tossed in the trash for
someone else to pick up and attach it to another
bag or briefcase. If you use a non-transferable
security tag, it cannot be reused once it has
been sealed or fastened to an object. Using a
non-transferable tag is a simple way to ensure
that the people in your building are safe.
